Living a Life of Service

Living a Life of Service

Text: Mark 10:45, Galatians 5:13, Matthew 20:26-28

The Call to Serve

Living a life of service is a fundamental part of following Jesus Christ. In Mark 10:45, Jesus says, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” This verse highlights the idea that Jesus came to serve others, and as His followers, we are called to do the same.

Serving Through Freedom

In Galatians 5:13, Paul writes, “You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.” This passage emphasizes the idea that our freedom in Christ is not a license to live for ourselves, but rather an opportunity to serve others. When we serve others, we demonstrate our love for them and for God.

The Example of Jesus

In Matthew 20:26-28, Jesus says, “Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” This passage highlights the example of Jesus, who came to serve others and give His life for us. As His followers, we are called to follow His example and live a life of service.

Key Points:

  1. The Call to Serve: “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve” (Mark 10:45). Jesus came to serve others, and as His followers, we are called to do the same.

  3. The Example of Jesus: “Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve” (Matthew 20:28). Jesus’ example of service is one that we are called to follow.

Application:

  1. Look for Opportunities to Serve: Look for opportunities to serve others in your daily life, whether it’s through volunteering, helping a friend or family member, or simply being present for someone in need.
  2. Serve with Humility: Serve others with humility, recognizing that you are serving God and not just people.
  3. Follow Jesus’ Example: Follow Jesus’ example of service and give your life to serving others.

Conclusion:

Living a life of service is a fundamental part of following Jesus Christ. As we serve others, we demonstrate our love for them and for God, and we follow Jesus’ example of service.
