The Call to Follow:
In Luke 9:23-26, Jesus says, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” This call to follow Jesus is not a casual invitation. It requires a deep commitment to put Jesus first in our lives.
The Cost of Discipleship:
In Matthew 16:24-25, Jesus says, “If anyone would be my disciple, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” What does it mean to take up our cross? It means to be willing to sacrifice our own interests, desires, and even our lives for the sake of following Jesus.
The Promise of Following:
In Mark 8:34-35, Jesus says, “For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it.” Following Jesus comes with a promise: that we will find true life, true fulfillment, and true purpose in Him.
Application:
So, what does it mean to follow Christ in our daily lives? It means to prioritize our relationship with Him above all else. It means to obey His teachings, to trust in His sovereignty, and to follow His example of love and service.
