Nigeria as a country passionately stood up to support the super eagles at the final of the Africa Cup of Nations between Nigeria and Ivory Coast which took place on Sunday February 11th, 2024 at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan. The kick-off was 20:00 UK time. (8:00pm GMT+1).  It was a nationwide desire for the super eagles to bring glory to the nation again. Especially during such difficult times.

The match proceeded with great enthusiasm from each team, however at about 38mins into kick off the captain of the super eagles of Nigeria (William Troost Ekong) made a sublime header as a result of a  beautiful cross, which led to the first goal of the game. The uproar was intense as nearly the whole nation of Nigeria was elated with such tremendous joy of victory. Different viewing centers and homes became alive as a result of the goal. Hence the confidence of Nigerians became stronger. However the Ivorians were not backing down as different attempts began to come in of which the goal keeper of the Nigerian super eagles (Stanley Nwabali) came to the rescue.

All hope seems lost for the ivorians until about 62mins into the second half, the ivorians equalized as a result of great goal by Franck Kessie who made sure to make the goal keeper make a run for his money.

The entire game seemed to be pressing towards extra time and the super eagles were also wishing the game would just end for them to re-strategies and come up with a new game plan. But the Ivorians were adamant and only desired to end the match with a win as soon as possible. The passion of the ivorians was evident when at about 81mins to the full time the ivorians came up with a grand tactics that sent the ball into the super eagles box of which the Ivorian striker known to be a goal scorer took his reputation personal and made a clean tactical touch into the back of the super eagles net making the score line a tragic 2:1 for the Nigerians and a victorious 2:1 for the ivorians.

Of a truth, the best team simply won. However the super eagles being sad took to their hearts, courage and were able to still stand strong as the second in the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations.
